Idaho Code Governing Electrical & Plumbing Permits & work you are allowed to do on your own Property

MEMORANDUM

TO: Bear Lake RV Park Property Owners

FROM: Board of Directors

SUBJECT: Electrical and Plumbing Permits

Idaho Code Title s 54 Chapter 10 and Chapter 26 govern electrical and plumbing permits required in the State of Idaho. Following are some basic requirements. For more information and to download an application for a permit, visit www.dbs.idaho.gov and click on the link for either electrical or plumbing.

Who is authorized to do electrical wiring and plumbing?

Property owners in Idaho may do electrical wiring and plumbing on their own property, provided they physically perform the work themselves, and are the owner of the property. All other electrical and plumbing work must be done by an Idaho licensed Electrical Contractor. All work must be done in accordance with electrical and plumbing codes regardless of whether the work is done by an individual property owner or a licensed contractor.

When is a permit required?

A permit is required anytime electrical or plumbing is installed or modified. Please note, your building permit does not include the inspection of electrical and plumbing work. A separate request for electrical and plumbing application forms with the required fees must be submitted to the Electrical Bureau or Plumbing Bureau at or before commencement of any electrical or plumbing installation.

Is a permit required before power or water can be connected?

Yes, inspections are required for electrical only before can be connected and energized

How do I schedule an inspection?

An inspector will be assigned your permit at the time of issuance. You will be provided with the inspector's name and office telephone number. Please call the inspector and schedule an appointment for two to three working days prior to inspection. Be sure that you have completed the installation (or the portion you want inspected) prior to scheduling in order to avoid a re-inspection fee.

Property owners who have work completed without a permit are subject to fines. Please make sure you comply with Idaho law when having work done on your property.
